If you are seeking an intimate garden wedding, evening dinner or reception, Big Bear Cafe is an ideal urban hideaway.
Big Bear is located in a small residential neighborhood in the heart of DC surrounded by cobblestone patios, flowering gardens, trees, and old native grape vines.
We have a history of award winning chefs, ingredient driven farm-focused menus, and personable professional service staff.
THE SPACE:
The lower level indoor dining area has a full service bar, walls of exposed brick and plaster, and rough-hewn hardwood tables built from the reclaimed beams of the original 120 year old Big Bear Market.
The second floor is an additional private space with rustic wood paneling, vintage industrial steel frames, large windows, and a full bar.
The interior spaces are configured for either large communal table dining or an open-floor more casual cocktail reception.
The outside garden patio is covered with a grapevine canopy. The herb gardens surround the space separating it from the outside world. You can also have your dinner outside under the grape vines with separate reception or meeting areas indoors or on a small patio off to the side.
The second floor is a wonderful rustic space featuring wood-paneled walls, wood fireplace, and exposed brick walls. This area is perfect for an indoor ceremony, seated communal dinner, or dancing.
CAPACITY:
Between late April and early November the outdoor space can seat up to 75 guests for dining between the garden patios and first floor. This typically involves long family style tables that run down the length of both patios.
Between early April and late November we can accommodate up to 100 guests for an open floor reception style event utilizing both the indoors and outdoor spaces.
The second floor can accommodate up to 50 guests for a seated meal or a cocktail style reception.
